THE STARFISH AND THE MOON

A starfish, in love with the moon, gets lost in the waves of a beach at night.
Exhausted, then, she accepted her fate as the new day came.
As the sun rose in the sky, a man walked on the island’s beach, admiring the dawn.
Suddenly the man saw a little boy, who was walking slowly along the beach.
Sometimes the child went down, took a starfish from the beach to throw it into the sea of Ischia.
The man then, hoping to teach the boy something useful, approached him and said: “Dear boy, I have been thinking about what you do. I know you have good intentions, but do you realize how many beaches are in the world and how many starfish die?
Certainly a good boy like you, committed and generous, could find something better to do.
Do you really think that by throwing the starfish back into the sea you will do something important?”

The boy looked up at that man, then saw a starfish that was at his feet, picked it up and, as he gently threw it into the water, he said: “I’m doing something important for this starfish!”
